WPMS 2016 Spring Musical Revealed! Plus, Role Descriptions!

What do a Witch, an old cow, and a beanstalk all have in common? No, they are not ingredients to the tomorrows lunch special.

Along with a baker’s wife, Cinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood, they are characters in the upcoming musical Into the Woods, presented by the West Pine Middle Drama program,and directed by Torin Wright.

Into the woods, first introduced as a novel, by James Lapine, debuted on Broadway in 1987 where it was awarded multiple Tony awards.The latest revival of this tale was brought to life on screen in 2014, starring Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, and Anna Kendrick.

For those of you living under a rock, Into the Woods chronicles the life of well-known fairytale characters as they attempt to change their conventional fates. The choice to present Into the Woods as this year's musical, seems very logical coming from Mr. Wright. Little known fact, Mr.Wright’s favorite musical is Sweeney Todd, which just so happened to have been composed by the same person as Into the Woods; Stephen Sondheim.

This year the auditions will be following Christmas break, with a performance in early spring. You must sing, dance, and act for the audition. Also, the song must be from the character you are auditioning for; more information about audition requirements will be sent out soon. Everyone is encouraged to come out and audition, there are LOTS of great roles, just don’t get lost in woods trying to find them!
