Dear Lauressa,
How do I get a boyfriend? All of my friends are dating guys and I’m feeling left out. I have two friends who are dating guys right now, and I feel like a loser. I want to get a boyfriend, but I don’t know how! It seems so hard and I don’t know where to start!

I’m so excited to help you! I have struggled with this in the past and I learned a few simple steps that should help. First, you have to open yourself up. Be friendly and smile at passing guys. Secondly, try having some short conversations with guys who seem interested in you. Find things you have in common and start on conversation about that. “Did you see the UNC game last night?” Or, “Can you believe that last English assignment?” If you feel comfortable talking to them and enjoy their company, you’re ready for the next step. Thirdly, ask them for their phone number. Getting rejected over text is a lot better than getting rejected in person. Don’t text them too much, they might get weirded out and think you’re desperate and a stalker. Lastly, if they don’t ask you out first, ask them out! If you get rejected, you probably shouldn’t come to school for the next few days. Don’t be afraid to show confidence! It could only ruin your middle school life, but that’s not important! Now get to it and I wish you the best of luck!
