WPMS School Basketball Tournament Summary

This past Friday as some of you may know, was West Pines’ first middle school basketball tournament! Ms.Peschieri organized the event as a fundraiser for the girls’ basketball team this year, and it was quite the turnout.

There was four teams, the Ball Squad, Team Elite, Hoops We Did It Again, and team Buckets. The Ball Squad consisted of five 8th graders, including Rachel M, Aaron D, Dillon B, Noah L, and Patrik L. Team Elite also consisted of 8th graders, but 8 of them. Ashlyn O, Kelsie B, T.J. G, Sam M, Anthony M, Larry C, Archie C, and Kaywon* H all made up Team Elite. Hoops We Did It Again was a mix of 7th and 8th graders including Gabby & Bella C, Kara J, Jolie F, Addie P, Kennedy C, Matthew W, and Devon E. Last, but certainly not least is team Buckets made up completely of 7th graders such as Natalie S, Easton O, Braxton B, Ian S**, and Georgio N. Let the games begin!

Before any finals you have to have games, right? The first game between Ball Squad and Hoops We Did It Again was a tough battle with great offense from both sides with a final score of 26-0 Ball Squad. The second game between Buckets and Team Elite had incredible defense with Elite coming out on top with a score of 15-6. The third game was between Ball Squad and Elite with good offense from Ball Squad and good defense from Elite. A great battle ended up with a score of 17-7 Ball Squad. Hoops We Did It Again came back for the fourth game against Buckets showing great teamwork on and off the court the score ended up as 10-0 Buckets. Hoops We Did It Again then played back to back games this time facing off Team Elite. With great defense and strategies the score came out as 23-2 Team Elite. The last game before finals was between Ball Squad and Buckets. With some great defense working with leadership on the court the score ended up as 21-5 Ball Squad.

After those 6 games, Hoops We Did It Again came in 4th for the tournament and Buckets game in 3rd. That came down to Team Elite and Ball Squad in the finals. Both teams were extremely even in skills with great playing from both. The game was tied up for most of the 10 minute period and when it ended it was 15-15. They added 2 minutes to the clock and at the end of that it was 17-17. Also at the end of those last 2 minutes, Ball Squad had a foul, which gave Team Elite a free throw. The pressure was on for both teams. The ball was shot into the air and bounced on the rim, and then fell right into the basket. Team Elite had won! 18-17 was the closest game of the night.

Ms.Peschieri would like to thank everyone that came out and supported. She’d especially like to thank the referees, Ms.Roseberry and Mr.Mabe, the teacher volunteers, Ms.Hippenmeyer and Ms.Keegan, and the Beta Club volunteers, Lindsay D, Emma A, and Emily S. All in all, the first West Pine Middle School Basketball Tournament was a success!
